David Bortolussi grew up in Halifax and holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Ottawa in Marketing and International Management, an MBA from Saint Mary’s University, and is a CPA, CMA (Certified Management Accountant).  Early in his career he managed several different small businesses in both Nova Scotia and Alberta.  After completing his MBA in 2003 he worked as a consultant at the Saint Mary’s University Business Development Centre, where he was responsible for preparing and supervising business plans, financial projections, feasibility studies, and market studies for small and medium sized businesses throughout Nova Scotia.    

From 2007 to 2015, David worked for DORA Construction, a general contractor based in Dartmouth, starting off as Assistant Controller and then promoted to Controller three years later.  David was responsible for overseeing the accounting department for DORA and several of its related companies over the years, including demolition (DORA Demolition), import/procurement (Seren Supply), drywall (Northern Interiors), and real estate (DCL Holdings).  

In 2015, David started DMB Consulting Inc. with the goal of helping small and medium sized businesses with their financial management.  The following are some of the recent work completed:

  • Part-time and contract Director of Finance and Controller positions in both the construction industry and food service industry

  • Since May, 2018 provided ongoing consulting work for BDC Advisory Services

  • Since Jan, 2017 provided ongoing consulting work for Caravan Ventures (www.caravanventures.ca ), an early stage venture capital network based in Toronto. Projects included developing financial models and projections for several exciting start-up they have supported, including Logojoy, RetreatGuru, Plastics for Change, TravelCubed, and Global Skills.

  • From Aug, 2017 - Jan, 2018, provided ongoing assistance on financial projections and models, valuation and market study to Neck Tronics Inc, a Bridgewater, NS based startup that has developed an innovative neck strengthening device (www.necktronics.com)

  • Developed and delivered "Financial Management for Contractors" for CANS (Construction Association of NS) a course geared towards owners, management, accountants, project managers and estimators.   • Provided financial projections and business planning advice to Scotia Suzuki School of Music, which was established in September, 2017 and is a new and vibrant part of the provinces music scene (www.scotiasuzuki.org)

David lives in Clayton Park, with his wife Nicole and two sons. He is a volunteer with Junior Achievement of Nova Scotia, as well serving on the Board of Directors as Treasurer for the Halifax Dunbrack Soccer Club (www.dunbrack.ca).
